Application Allows Adding Blank Page (about:blank) to Homescreen

When accessing the tab options menu, the current URL displays as about:blank. The "Add to homescreen" option remains active/clickable despite pointing to a blank page with no content. Selecting this option successfully creates a homescreen shortcut, but tapping the shortcut later opens a blank browser window with no loaded content, rendering it useless.
