Did ArcBlock intend to remove email login as a default option?

Hi ArcBlock team,

I’ve run into some confusion with the current login flow when launching and setting up a Blocklet, and I think it could easily trip up new users.

Here’s the flow as I’m seeing it:

  • When launching a Blocklet, it automatically attaches your email.
  • During setup, you’re prompted to connect a DID wallet but also given the option to “set up later.”
  • If you skip wallet setup, you effectively have an email-only account.
  • Later, when you try to log in through the front-end of the site (clicking the person icon in the header), the only options are DID wallet or passkey. There’s no email option.
  • At this point, the only way to log back in with that email account is to go through the backend app dashboard. That technically works, but it’s not at all intuitive compared to logging in from the site itself.

So people aren’t fully locked out — but they will feel locked out, because the front-end login doesn’t support email anymore.

My questions are:

  • Was the removal of email as a front-end login option intentional?
  • If so, is the expectation that all users should attach a wallet immediately during setup, otherwise they’ll need to use the backend?
  • Is there a plan to make that more obvious in the flow, so users who choose “set up later” understand what that means?

My concern is that many people will launch, skip wallet setup, and later assume they’ve lost access to their site because they won’t know to go through the backend. This is tough because the link you get sent via email when you launch does not take you to that dashboard.

Sorry to be long winded. I launched today and felt like the change could bring up some issues

  1. For now, you can always login automatically when open your blocklet from launcher.arcblock.io.
  2. If you forget to attach DID Wallet or Passkeys, email should always be there as an option, if not, this should be a bug we should look into and fix ASAP.

I followed the steps you wrote one by one, but I found that it ended up with the option to provide mail login

Can you provide your blocklet URL? Help me find out the cause of this problem
